Student Volunteer

Hey Everyone!

My name is Krysti, I'm a student at St. Michael's College and I've had the pleasure of volunteering at the Winooski Family Center this past semester. I had the opportunity to work with the pre-school and was able to really interact with the kids and get to know them. It was a lot of fun and something that I'm definitely thinking about doing again in the future.

While working with the kids I was able to not only play with them but also assist them with arts and crafts and even sit in on circle time. The day I was at the Center, the kids were making head bands out of paper and feathers, which they were really cute about. They all wanted the chance to walk around wearing them.

The kids also had the option to play with a train set, and with water boats in a big tub, among many other activities that they all really seemed to enjoy.

My favorite time at the Center was when we all went outside and I was able to just play with the kids and get to know them a little better. The Center has a little fenced in yard with bikes the kids can ride, sand toys, pretty much anything you can imagine. It was just a lot of fun to see them play, as well as interact with each other, especially considering all the diversity that is present at the Center.

Everyone there was also very nice to me, and I got the sense that the teachers cared a lot about the kids. They were just so understanding and really knew how to keep the kids entertained and busy. And in return the kids seemed to like it there.

Volunteering with the Winooski Family Center has been a great experience for me, it's really opened up my eyes to what it's like working with tons of little kids and has provided me with a better understanding of the surrounding community. For, the Center doesn't just support the kids, but also the parents, which I think is one of the things that makes them so successful.

I really hope to continue my connection with the Center into the future, and will hopefully be able to find the time to volunteer with them in the coming semesters.

Thanks for reading,
Krysti

Welcome to the Winooski Family Center!

We are so excited to begin our blog! Our goal is to be able to communicate more often and more effectively. We also hope that you will get to know all of us better and become more familiar with what is going on at our two locations.

Currently we are planning our summer schedule. Lori and Krisie will be offering some great field trips and hope the weather cooperates so that we can be outside as much as possible. We will definitely be going strawberry picking and to Shelburne Farms - favorites of last summer. Playgroups will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with Tuesdays being field trip days and Thursdays hopefully having access to the pool at Landry Park (we are currently making arrangements). We will be posting a complete schedule in the next few weeks.

Robyn and Jaime (Laura is the lucky one and has the summer off!) will be leading some "summer school" activities for preschoolers that were registered with us this past year. The focus will be on gardening and nature, and as with the playgroups, we hope to be outdoors as much as possible. We will give parents details and schedules by the end of May.
